Fish Heads for Dinner

Most people get grossed out by fish, fish heads, jelly fish, slime, gooo, and basically all things fish. For me however, I grew up around this slimy show, and so have become accustom to the fishing scene.

It must be in my family’s blood but seafood is a must in our diet, in fact if my dad goes for more than 2 days with out any fish, he starts to get a little cranky.

So however we must get it on our dinner table….for cheap or free, we will. So today my dad tells me to go get us a fish. No questions asked, just do it basically. My sister and I look at each other secretly excited about our new mission, only because it relieves us of our current monotonous duty of splicing line in the rain. However at the same time completely confused on how to go about this.

Since we are not in the market for salmon right now and herring is the last thing any of us want to eat (I’ll explain in a later post) we must find other ways of quenching these cravings.

So our mission was to find a fish, not catch, but find. Hmmm, no confusion there. My sister and I perused the seafood processing plant we just so happen to be parked next to, and not even 2 minutes pass by before two of the workers ask us what we are looking for. “FISH” we say.

Easy enough, these kind people directed us to a whole tub of fish heads to choose from. They said we could have anything we wanted.

For most, this was a grotesque box of nastiness. For us though, it was a feast of deliciousness. The cheeks are the best part and we had everything from Lingcod to Blackcod and even Halibut and Rockfish. You name it. Our finding made for a delightful feast and a proud father.

Sorry the quality of this video is terrible but here is a rough cut of us doing some ‘dinner prep’ at Sitka Sound Seafoods.
