Long before Sierra and I came up with the idea to start The Real Alaska, I was profiled on an awesome website called Escape the City.
The website aims to connect employers, volunteers and anyone else eager to get out… and do something different. After returning to the commercial fishing world last summer, I packed up my bags and left for Nicaragua to volunteer as the Controller for blueEnergy Group, an NGO aiming to provide renewable energy services to the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua.
I can’t recommend Escape the City enough. I urge you to browse their extensive network of opportunities and Hero stories, where they profile individuals who made a life change and are following their dreams. No doubt, my work in Nicaragua and being a commercial fishing captain are dreams of mine.
Here is the tagline for my Hero profile. Thanks to Rob, one of Escape’s founders, I am apparently a legend. While growing up, my mother used to call my room a legendary disaster. I’m sure that is what he meant.
Brett is an absolute legend. Ex-financial analyst, Alaskan fishing boat captain, and renewable energy financial controller in Nicaragua. Full of Esc love and great on the emails!
