Video: Boat Maintenance

This is a short video of us fishing in Chignik Alaska and taking a little breather before the 3rd opener. This is our second twenty-four hour closure of the season.

The fishery opens and closes at different times throughout the season to allow time to meet the escapement goals. Closures can last anywhere from a day to a week or even 2 weeks depending on the run. This all ties back into what makes Alaska salmon a sustainable resource. They close fishing for a time being so they can ensure a certain amount of fish are making it up stream to spawn again and make for a healthy salmon season next year. So basically, we only catch a small percentage of the total salmon.

Here is a fun video of me working on the boat during the closure.
