After graduating college, Brett spent a brief moment in the corporate world within the hedge fund industry, but quickly switched gears and returned to his roots to skipper a commercial fishing vessel in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Brett & Sierra were childhood friends in Chignik, and upon returning to commercial fishing, they decided to create this website to share the lives of real Alaskans.

Homer Spit and Chugach Mtn. Sunset

I love Homer. I may be a little biased considering I was born in this quaint town at the end of the road. But I’m not the only one. Homer has turned into a mecca and destination hot spot

PenAir Landing in Dutch Harbor

I grew up flying PenAir my whole life. PenAir serves the small villages along the Peninsula and is a person’s only choice if they choose to fly within this region.

Pebble Partnership video advertisement counterpoint: Does the historical performance of the Fraser River compare to the Kvichak and Nushagak Rivers where the Pebble mine is proposed? Can “hundreds of miners and several large open-pit mines” live next to a world-class fishery?

Bristol Bay Boat and Chart

After I got home this summer, I spent some time browsing blogs, reading fact sheets and listening to pro-Pebble ads. In a short series of posts here at The Real Alaska and Alaska Waypoints, I’m going to present some point/counterpoint on the Pebble situation.

POINT: Kennecott didn’t kill the Copper River, so that must mean Pebble won’t kill the Nushagak and the Kvichak
